What Would You Do ?

The person you work for whom you've known for less than a year has offered you and your family to their Thanksgiving celebration with no less than 80 of their friends and family. Keep in mind that this is a personal dinner, very few of your coworkers if any will be attending.

What would you do ?

More Questions;

How have you conducted yourself with coworkers/employers ? Have you kept it as strictly business or did you let your work life crossover into a personal relationship with them ?

If you ever got involved personally, did the working relationship stay the same, turned worse or better ?

Oh...

I forgot, this is a knitting blog so here's a photo of knitting.

It's just a little hat I'm working on for one of my cousins.

It depends. Is this dinner meant to be for folks who don't have family to be with for Thanksgiving? I know I have friends that have dinners and it's a contest for the #'s...drives me crazy.

I've been good friends with co-workers in the past and it was great. However, the folks I work with now, I keep it strictly a working relationship as there are way too many clicques (sp?) in this office and I hate the politics of it all.

Can't wait to see what you do.

Never with the co-workers. It can lead to unwanted complications.
That's a pretty pink.

No, no, the dinner is actually all of her family and close friends. They are a well know family in town.

I think if you feel comfortable with your employer, then maybe you can pop in for dinner or dessert. If not, then just let him/her know you have another commitment, this way it won't be taken personally and it gives you an escape from feeling obligated to attend.
Love the little hat, so far. :-)

This is a touchy subject. I tend to not accept those types of invitations. That type of thing spells trouble and obligation for me.

Some of my best friends now are co-workers from 10 to 15 years ago. But no bosses, or any of my employees. I guess it really depends on the relationship. I am not a fan of huge gatherings, so in my case I would decline. But on the other hand, if there are going to be that many people there I'm sure you could find someone interesting to talk to, or not be missed if you decide to duck out! Good luck and let us know what you decide. Happy Thanksgiving!
