Sweaters, Veggies and a Forest Canopy

The weather here has cooled down quite a bit more since I spoke about it a few posts ago. It’s looking more and more like fall. The mornings are grey and cool, I don’t have to worry about my plants on the deck being cooked and scrambled by the Georgia sun. I haven’t used the central air in about a week and at night I’m sleeping with my flannel blanket. This is perfect weather for me.

With all of that said, this weather shift has me in the mood for sweater making. I've been going through my books, magazines and Ravelry looking for the perfect sweaters to knit.
I really love Charlotte Quiggle’s Yoke Pullover with it’s matching hat. It’s out of the Vogue Knitting Holiday 2005 book. I don't know whether this will be one of the sweaters I end up making but I would like to do a fair isle sweater. This is really cute. I love that the neck is scooped.

I love this one by Interweave knits and it looks like a quicker knit.

The Freyja Sweater

A sweater that seems to be knitted a lot lately is Norah Gaughan’s Knigscot Cardigan.

I love this sweater.

No bones about it, I will at some point make this sweater. I love the placement and uniqueness of the cables. It’s not a fitted sweater but would go well over my slacks, a basic dress or skirt. This is a must-make for me. I just have to decide on which yarn.

Ohhhhhhhhhhh, cabely goodness !

I have a couple of yarns already to work with. I have a very blue Araucania Nature Wool that’s really pretty. I thought about the Kingscot but will probably find another pattern to work this yarn in. I’m still on the look out for cabled cardigans though.

In the last year or so, Lion Brand has come out with two different colors of Fisherman’s Wool. One is a tan and the other is this brown. I fell in love with the brown and bought a lot of it. I had not looked at the yarn for almost a year and when I pulled it out of my bag a few months ago I was not happy. Though the yarn is nice, it is a really boring color.

So far, I have used it here and there for small projects. I consider it to be more of an accent yarn. Even if I use it for the bulk of a project, It’s just there to hold up the other colors. Does that make sense?

Fisherman’s Wool with Noro

I think all of us have been excited about a yarn, bought it or loads of it and some time later looked at the yarn and thought; “What was I thinking?”. I really love Fisherman’s Wool but I have to say that this is the dullest color I’ve ever knit with. I plan to use it for a sweater. I hope I end up liking the project.

A Go At Lace...

A couple of weeks ago I decided that I was going to work on the Forest Canopy. Believe it or not, this was a big decision for me because I don’t do shawls and I surely don’t do lace. My knitting repertoire needs expansion so I decided to try a lace shawl. I’ve knitted a few lace scarves and a vest years ago but nothing much since then.

With pattern in hand, I went internet lace shopping. I noticed that Susan Pierce Lawrence used Mountain Color’s Weaver’s Weavers Wool Quarters. Wow, I actually had a skein of this in my stash. It’s rusts to gold rusts to brown in color which is something I would never use for a shawl. I initially thought of making a nice set of gloves or a heavily cabled hat, never a shawl. So, I decided to use what Ms. Lawrence used.

I have to say, it is rare if never that I use the suggested yarn for any of my patterns. I mean, I don’t even try. I look at a pattern and say to myself, oh, the author used that yarn, how nice and then I begin searching for what I like or want. In looking at my fall/winter wardrobe this summer, I had decided that I would incorporate more brown into it. I have far too many blues and blacks so, a brown shawl will work just fine.

A budding Forest Canopy

This is how far I’ve gotten. If I had a better camera you could see just how pretty it is. I’m knitting this in my leisure but hope to be done with it soon.

Veggies !!!

Coming down the highway the other day I stopped at a stand to buy these veggies and the vendor was sweet enough to give me these eggplants.

If I don’t fry or saute them I may do a moussaka. I don’t think they are quite ripe though that’s why I have them in the window. I have never seen eggplant this color. Have any of you ?

Though I don’t know whether they are ripe, they are beautiful !

If you are soliciting votes for what to knit, I think Kingscot would be GREAT! It looks so versatile. And your forest canopy looks great. Hope you are enjoying the process.

Happy days!!!

Your forest canopy looks pretty. I love the color.

I want to make a sweater too, but can't decide which one. The fair isle is nice. I want to do something like that this winter, but who knows. Every time I try to plan it never works out.

Good luck with your sweater project. Every now and then I get an urge to knit a sweater.

No, I have never seen that color eggplant. I'm the only one in my family who loves eggplant. Ratatouille is one of my favorite dishes!

I am giving a thumbs up on the Kingscot. If I could knit, I would make it. Your Forest is coming out nicely and I don't see anything wrong with that color shawl. The vegetables are pretty. I don't know about the eggplant.

Never seen them in that color.
About your fisherman(you say boring)color- try put pail pink /(baby) and some full green gras colored yarn.
In Scandinavia green /pink ( with aditional colors ) are hot,hot..
I love them together.. and with the brown as main color - wow...

I've been so out of the knitting/crocheting realm... that I need all kinds of inspiration.

I really lke the fair isle sweaters and love the cable sweater..

I've never done a shawl and recently came across a wrap that I would like to try - Every Way Wrap, which is in the Fall Interweave mag.
