Once Upon A CPH

A Long Time Ago...

I joined a mini-CPH KAL started by 2 Sistah’s Knit Together/ CiCi and Cjtalk. It was in 2008.

I hadn’t knitted a sweater in a while and thought it would be fun. Heck, the sisters are fun! They were passionate and enthusiastic which made me want to knit right along with them.

The sisters were blogging about their CPH’s and had quite a few knitters to encourage and support them.

When they were half done with the backs of their CPH, I had not even thought of yarn I wanted to use.

I was online and catalogue browsing trying to figure out the best color, the best texture and what would go well with my slacks. I stopped in Michael’s to pick up a pair of knitting needles when I noticed a few colors of the Patons Classic Wool on clearance. What can I say, I am a sucker for sales and clearance sales are even better. I think the skeins were marked down from $4.99 to something like $1.99 a skein. Each skein is 223 yards. I cleaned up !

These are the first real photos I’ve taken of my CPH. I just put them on Ravelry.

Being that the yarn was on sale, the colors were limited. I didn't cared for the other colors so I purchased 15 skeins of the Natural Mix color. The yarn was for my CPH but, I had holiday gifting projects in mind also. Before sales taxes were put on, my cost for just over 3300 yards of merino wool was less than $30.00!

By the time I completed the back and sleeves of the sweater, I was completely bored. The color was not moving me for this particular sweater. Though I like the CPH, let’s face it, there is nothing about the pattern that challenges. I put it down and never blogged about it again. When the Ravelympics came around, I entered the sweater and completed it but never posted pictures of it or blogged my completion. I really disliked the sweater. It was hung up in my closet and ignored. Sometime later, a bulky sweater was hung over it. For the time being it was gone and forgotten.

This past weekend I was rearranging my close, I noticed the CPH under the other sweater. It had been a while and was sort of a pleasant surprise though I still don’t like the sweater. Oh well, I guess absence does not always make the heart grow fonder.

I first decided that I would donate it to the Salvation Army but decided instead to give it to a family member that would delight in receiving a handmade gift. This sweater is being shipped off to Michigan to my little cousin in Detroit as a belated holiday gift.

Goodbye CPH, goodbye.

It's a great looking sweater Carolyn, but I could see how the colour would leave you sort of iffy about the whole thing. I too struggle with these sorts of clours. Hope the sweater enjoys the trip.

I like your sweater. As I've gotten older I really tend to like muted colors. I do have to ask...what is a CPH?

haha.. I remember that. Seems like ages ago. I took me almost until the next year to finish mine. I love my CPH. I ended up not putting the hoodie and added a zipper. I have yarn in my stash for another one.
I think it turned out great. You could always dye it. I am sure your cousin will be very happy with it♥

Now I am a lover of tan, khaki, olive, gray, all those "boring" colors. I am glad to hear that someone will be enjoying the sweater. I think it is gorgeous! Of course you could have always deconstructed it and used the yarn for something else :), or offered it up to one of us :) Ha!

I just started the CPH and can see that I will have to put it down after I finish the back.

I knitted the child's version of this sweater (almost identical) and with the same yarn as you, and I, too, got bored. It just needs to be seemed together and I can't seem to get to it.

Yours is very lovely, however.

All beige and tan like colors all wash my color out. You did a great job on it though.

I love the sisters too!! they are such great people.

I love the sweater - my first sweater was a CPH and I still get a lot of wear out of it. Lucky cousin!

I love the photo of you holding the books and it really showcase how fab the sweater is. I love neutral colors and will pair it with a bright color like red or purple.

Your sweater really looks great, but I understand the not liking it on your part. I always seem to have trouble liking the sweaters I knit for myself. They never quite live up to my expectations. Guess I just haven't found the right pattern yet for me. Hopefully your CPH will have found a good home and will be appreciated :)

Beautiful workmanship :)

Sorry you don't like it. It's a really pretty sweater. Plus, the color is perfectly neutral, it'll go with so many things. I'm sure your cousin will love it!

Thanks for your comment on my tea cozy!

And I'm glad that even if the sweater wasn't right for you, it's heading off to a good home.

:-0 what was wrong with it? Is it the shape, color, yarn fiber, too long sleeves ??? You make me laught a bit. I like the CPH and often thought about a quick project( as you say the pattern is not challenging),but never got around to it. I think you did a good job and you have one lucky cusin in Michigan;-)
