An Elemental Weekend...

One day we're all holiday shopping and preparing for New Year's celebrations then turn around and it's February already !!! Is it me or is this year really moving quickly.

It was a lovely weekend in this part of Georgia. A bit overcast but nice just the same. The weather wasn't cold at all. Though I didn't turn on my television much, I guessed the temperature to be around 55-60 degrees.

Many times on the weekend I am hustling towards Atlanta whether it's on the main highway for a direct route or through the back way (through Snellville, Lawrenceville and other small towns). I'm either headed to visit family and friends, to eat out or to shop, or to do all three. This weekend however, I simply stayed here in town. I did a lot of e-mail catching up and knitted on a few projects. I chose not to go out for coffee, or to do any resale shopping or eat out. I simply stayed home. I kept it simple and wasn't bored at all.

I found this hat on Ravelry a few days ago and loved it. It's called Elementary and is designed by Mandy at Zigzagstitch. Mandy created this hat for her class of beginning knitters. Now that I think about it, I may pass this pattern on to a friend of mine that is intimidated by circulars and knitting in the round. I however, chose this pattern for it's simplicity.

I used size 7 16 inch circulars and #7 dpn's. The yarn is Cascade Pastaza in color #068, one of the prettiest blues I've knitted with in quite a while.

At first I was fretting a bit because I thought the yarn to be splitty but, I adjusted. All went well.

This pattern is perfection for me because though I am addicted to cables, I absolutely love clean lines. It's definitely a do-again.

This is an easy-as-pie pattern that I whipped up in less than a day.

I have a few more pictures of Elementary on my Ravelry page.

What Else I Accomplished This Weekend...

This is simply a stash buster. This hat was knit for no particular newborn. This is the Hospital Hat by Annika Barranti. I found this pattern on Ravelry also and thought it was really cute.

The yarn is Lily Sugar'n Cream Crafter's Cotton Ombres and was knit on #6 dpn's. This is a quick project. I am a person that would normally run from any i-cord but, this one was really not bad.

I will stick this little hat in my FO bin and save it for the next newborn that comes along in my life !

What is it With Me and Hats ???

I really am a sweater knitter but lately I've turned into a bit of a cowl/hat/anything small and quick knitter. Here are a few of the hats I've done and am just now posting.

A simple beanie by Noro Kureyon on #7's in Colorway #183

Debbie Bliss in Wool-Ease (Denim) done on #7's

Turn A Square Plymouth Yarn Encore Worsted and Knitpicks Wool of the Andes (black) on #7's

A Tiny Hat (done for the fun of it/stash buster) in Red Heart Ltd. Fiesta on #6 dpn's

(my own pattern)

and last but not least... Just to let you know, it's okay if you laugh at this picture, seeing as all of my friends did. I had no one to model this hat at the time... I had to use my resources.

My Mom's hat to match her Debbie Bliss Bobble and Cable Scarf

this is done in Patons Classic Merino in Sage (my own pattern)

Other Knitting...

I just cast on another Cherry Garcia (double strand) with more of my Knitpicks Wool of the Andes in a blackish yarn. I'm sending my son a care package this weekend up to Michigan. I have another project or two planned which I'll share with you in my next post.

The hats are great! What's so good about making them for no one in particular is that if someone needs one, there's already one made up.

Wow Carolyn! That's a whack of great hats. The Debbie Bliss one is particularly pretty. I relate to your small object knitting - at the moment, I'd be knitting socks if I could.

Sometimes the best weekends are the simple, stay at home weekend. I so need one of those weekends again (minus leeches). Everything looks wonderful, but I am absolutely in love with the Debbie Bliss. I think I need it.

I like all the hats, but my favorites are Elementary (I think it's the color; beautiful), Noro (of course these colors are always beautiful) and the Turn a Square (I haven't tried this one yet). Great job on all of them. I've been knitting a few hats myself lately. Have you tried this one
http://knitty.com/ISSUEfall04/knittyF04surp.pdf ? I'm in the process of making this one. Have a wonderful weekend.

What a load of hats! (Please tell me they weren't all done in one weekend.) I'm a sucker for those Noro Kureyon colors, especially, but your hats are *all* beautiful!
