Three Hours Of Cool

To my surprise I was able to sit outside from 7:30am to 10:30am this morning. It was cool, there were no mosquitoes to interfer with my knitting and coffee drinking. I hope this is an indication that the heat has decided to subside for now.

I'm taking a break from my shawl knitting for now

with a bit of Wollmeise in the color Orient

A few days ago the temperature here was 77 degrees. That was 5:07am. So you can imagine how the rest of the day turned out. Like the entire country, it's been unbelievably-miserable-science-fiction-like hot.

Michigan where I was born and raised can get hot but at least the air circulates thanks to all of the surrounding lakes and rivers. Not here, not in Athens. There seems to be no air, just a stand still heat. I go outside and feel as though a burning building is following me around or that I have stepped into an oven. It's pretty bad.

I stopped buying plants for my garden a couple of weeks ago. I planted a beautiful Holly Hock in the early morning, came back from work and 90% of it was burned and dried. I water my garden late at night or before the sun rises but some days it doesn't matter.

Well, I guess we all have our Summer of 2011 Heat Stories though.

No matter how warm it is gets, enjoy your day !

Awww! I feel your pain. We have hot, desiccating weather every summer. It just takes everything out of you and your garden. I'm not complaining this year though. It's hot, but not like you've been getting. Anytime it stays below 100 degree in Central California, we consider it balmy, and It's only hit 100 a couple of times.

It has been a hot one! I like to sit outside on my porch in the morning and I think I have gradually been acclimating. One thing about the heat...it suppresses the appetite! =D

The colorway of that yarn is so pretty. I enjoy drinking my coffee at 6:00am after I've let the dogs out and while they romp around the yard... enjoy the coolness before the heat set in.

All I can say after the winter we had last year and all the snow...I'm not complaining about the heat! (Even when our AC died on a 100 + day last week!!)

One more reason I'm loving Portland right now. Dang but that's some heat you've got! LOVE that photo--heavenly!

Enjoy your cool weather... August is coming! I'll trade you some heat for some of your cool. And could you throw in a little rain with that?! lol

Aw, so sorry about your plant. Your mornings sound so pleasant. I hate to rub it in but we're having another strange summer in southern California, as in cooler than normal. We've had a few days of hot and humid but back to days in the upper 70's in my part of the city. I blame global warming, yea, that's it.
I hope it cools down very, very soon in your part of the state, so you can enjoy knitting in bliss.
:-)

Oops, I've been missing for a bit, sorry about that! I can't believe the heat you guys have been having, it's been really cold here recently. No sign of summer in Ireland! Love the Wollmeise you have, that shade is gorgeous.

You're a talented knitter. Thanks for stopping by my blog.
I have some Wollmeise in my stash, and have not yet used it. I hold onto it like gold! Your colorway is lovely.
It's hot here in Maryland, too. Time for a break, eh?

Oooo gosh that colorway is bright, sunny, happy and all things good!!

We are hot once again here in Iowa, with heat indices over 105*F and heat advisories. Perhaps it will head northeast and not your direction!

What a treat to sit outside and knit! Here too it has been quite hot. I'm lucky if I can knit. This morning it was really steamy, I took the dog out at 8am and I felt like I had entered a swamp it was 90% humidity and 24 but felt like 30c already! Came back in and the AC already had kicked in, yowsers!
I think it will be an inside knitting day!
I popped over to see you on ravelry, you've got some great projects to look at!

It sounds like an Indian summer. It helps if there's some breeze to stir the heat, else, like you rightly said, it's like carrying it on the back.

Back here we could do with some sunshine, with rains and monsoon clouds having barely given us a peek at sunshine in over a month now.

This has been a horrible year for plants, we have a lot that are not looking so good. Love the yarn for your socks!
